(16.4.14)The UK MMA Federation (UKMMAF) is pleased to invite applications from UK nationals to represent on the British team in the first IMMAF World Championships of Amateur MMA.

The  World Championships will take place in the week of June 30th to July 6th 2014 in Las Vegas, USA and welcomes men and women from around the world to compete. The IMMAF currently oversees national federations in 33 different countries, and preparations are taking place in all corners of the globe to ensure that the best of the best are sent to challenge each other in a tournament that will meet and exceed international sports standards.

The IMMAF World Championships take place during the same week as the esteemed UFC Fan Expo in Las Vegas (5th -6th July), which draws the cream of the MMA community and media and attracts thousands of MMA fans to the city. The Championships will be broadcast across various countries and streamed worldwide.

The IMMAF was founded in February 2012 as the international democratic body to represent MMA worldwide and to address the need for governance and acceptance still lacking in this rapidly growing sport.  Enabling MMA athletes the opportunity to test their abilities in international competition is a key ingredient for the development and recognition of the sport and with the IMMAF Championships, MMA takes that last step: Most athletes competing at elite level dream of one day representing their home country; carrying their nation’s flag proudly and doing their very best in front of the whole world in the sport they love. The IMMAF want to make this dream a reality for MMA athletes as well, starting with the first IMMAF World Championships in Las Vegas 2014, a championships that will take place every other year from then on.

UKMMAF Acting Secretary, Robbie Olivier, said:

“The IMMAF team have carried out an incredible job in setting the foundations in place for the first World Championships of MMA, with funding being the final piece to come into play. Although we have short time now to mobilise a UK team, as do all other participating nations, it is essential that we as a country support this historic first event and back the development of MMA towards being a legitimately recognised sport worldwide. I believe we have a duty to give British amateurs this exciting opportunity to compete against their international counterparts in this world broadcast event; and I believe we have the depth of talent and calibre of coaching in this county for selected competitors to be ready to step up and face this exciting challenge.”
