UNTIL 1ST SEPTEMBER 2014
(London.27th April 14) Safe MMA is pleased to announce a fees amnesty for promotions wishing to sign up before 1st September 2014.
Independent medical advisory body, Safe MMA, launched in January 2013 as a not-for-profit, volunteer lead project housed at 76 Harley Street in London. Safe MMA has six member promotions in the UK and Ireland including BAMMA, Cage Warriors, OMMAC, Quest, Euro Fight Night and the UKMMA Expo. Talks are currently in progress with further promotions that are planing to join.
The original Safe MMA agreement, contributed to by Cage Warriors and BAMMA, marked a breakthrough in British MMA as it brought into being the first inter promotion agreement and the first step towards voluntary regulation in this country. Safe MMA is recognised by the UKMMAF as its medical arm and under forthcoming sanctioning guidelines the UKMMAF will require licensed promotions to be members of Safe MMA: Member promotions agree to only use only professional fighters that have been medically cleared by Safe MMA, following blood tests and physical examinations. Member promotions also agree to conduct pre and post fight medical examinations carried out by a doctor at events and adhere to advisory medical suspensions, among other guidelines.
More than a year since launch, the project has developed a network of supporting medical professionals around the country, a dedicated software database and has its own dedicated record keeper at 76 Harley Street. The project has also harnessed impressive volunteer support from the UKMMA community, which has further advanced its progress.
Marc Goddard said:
“This is another extremely encouraging step that shows the commitment, drive and ethos behind Safe MMA to make it accessible for everyone who shares the aim of improving and ensuring baseline fighter safety adherence. I wholeheartedly encourage you to join.”
Safe MMA’s Dr. Maeve Rodgers said:
“Safe MMA is dedicated to the safety of MMA fighters in the UK. We have now refined our processes and have the capacity to enable much larger numbers of fighters to be Safe MMA registered. We are looking forward to working with those promotions who want to offer fighters on their shows the highest standard of safety available in UKMMA.”
