2014 has been another successful year for Safe MMA with founding promotions BAMMA and Cage Warriors continuing under its auspices, and new promotions coming on board including Fight UK and AON MMA. Safe MMA Ireland has been developing at a pace with Battlezone among the latest promotions to join; and with a FREE “Injuries inMMA”* seminar day hosted by Professor Healy and John Kavanagh coming to Dublin on 24th January. Safe MMA has informed the United Kingdom MMA Federation in its development, as the fledgling governing body has taken the first steps towards sanctioning in the UK, in partnership with promotions Fight UK and BAMMA. Requests to sign up to the project have equally come in from other countries abroad, with discussions in progress.
In March 2014, an open Medical Professionals Focus Group saw the further development of the Safe MMA medical examinations and the introduction of standardised guideline suspension periods. Safe MMA continues as a democratic, community project open to expert advice and opinion for its growth, and the AGM marks the next occasion where issues can be publicly raised and developments voted on.
AGENDA FOR THE SAFE MMA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING:
Items expected on the Safe MMA AGM agenda include, among other topics:
- a presentation of a new medical passport software that is in late stages of development
- the introduction of Safe MMA courses
- the issue of medical safety in Amateur MMA
If you would like any items to be added to the agenda please contact press@safe–mma.co.uk
There will also be the opportunity for new members to be voted to the Safe MMA board. If you are interested in a position and believe you have skills to contribute that will benefit the project please email press@safe–mma.co.uk.
