Spotlight on SAFE MMA Fighters
At just 21 years old, Ireland’s Flobater Fares stands at the edge of a dream he’s been chasing since childhood. With a decorated amateur MMA record of 14-7-1, national titles under his belt, and a deep-rooted passion for the sport, the Cork native is set to make his professional debut on June 12th, 2025, in Abu Dhabi under the UAE Warriors banner—a fight that will stream live on UFC Fight Pass.
“I live for moments like these,” Fares says. “As a kid, I always wanted to become a professional athlete. Now I am.”

Humble Beginnings
Fares wasn’t born into a sporting dynasty. In fact, he had no athletic background at all before stepping onto the mats at age 11. “I was just a shy kid from Cork City,” he reflects. “My older brother Abanoub got into MMA first, and I just followed in his footsteps.”
That first step eventually turned into a run—and then a sprint. Fares quickly began to carve out a name for himself on the amateur circuit. His accolades are impressive: two-time Irish Champion, Four Nation Champion, 2024 IMMAF European Gold Medallist, and 2024 IMMAF World Bronze Medallist. He also became the first MMA athlete in Ireland to receive a sports scholarship to a university, MTU (Munster Technological University), and, remarkably, the youngest male in Ireland to run 200 kilometers for charity.
Balancing Books and Bruises
While climbing the ranks in MMA, Fares was also pursuing a business degree at MTU—a balancing act that required discipline, planning, and sacrifice.
“Before I finished college this year, it was tough,” he admits. “I’d start the week by writing down when I was going to train, study, and meet friends. It helped me stay organized.”
That ability to manage multiple priorities has become a key part of his approach to training. He now trains twice a day, six days a week, in preparation for his pro debut—a routine that leaves little time for socializing. “Not having time for friends and family is tough, but this is what I signed up for. I wouldn’t change it.”
Fueled by Passion, Not Just Motivation
For Fares, setbacks have been part of the journey. Losses sting. But walking back into the gym at SBG Cork City the following Monday has always been his form of redemption.
“That feeling of defeat can crush your confidence, but I never let it stop me,” he says. “Real growth comes when you keep going, especially when it’s tough.”
He doesn’t rely on fleeting motivation. “Of course, the goal is UFC,” he says, “but for me, it’s pure love for the game. I’m obsessed with it. Even when it breaks me down, I keep coming back—because this is what I’m meant to do.”
Mental Strength, Physical Resilience
With the physical and mental demands of MMA, Fares takes his health seriously.
“MMA pushes you to your limits physically and mentally, so I’ve learned that looking after both is non-negotiable. The pressure, the losses, the weight cuts they take a toll.”
His approach is holistic: smart training, recovery, proper nutrition—and regular mental check-ins.
“Mental toughness isn’t about pretending to be okay all the time,” he says. “It’s about being honest with yourself and still showing up.”
He credits his resilience to staying grounded and having a strong support system. “I check in with myself regularly. I talk things out when needed and keep perspective. That mindset keeps me going.”
Safety First
As a registered athlete with Safe MMA, Fares is an advocate for fighter safety. “They make sure we’re fit to compete, which gives peace of mind,” he says. “Medical testing is crucial. We’re putting our bodies on the line, so safety must come first. It protects us and keeps the sport going in the right direction.”
Eyes on the Future
With his first professional contract signed and his debut on the horizon, Fares is focused and clear-eyed about his goals. “Short term, I want to keep fighting under UAE Warriors and take over MMA in the Middle East—win titles and keep building,” he says. “Long term? UFC.”
He pauses for a moment before adding with a smile, “Winning this debut? It would mean everything. My friends and family will be watching. I can’t wait.”
