Safe MMA exists to help make the sport of mixed martial arts safer. We provide independent oversight and verification that pre-competition medical safety standards are being met, and we support those involved in the sport to understand and comply with those standards.
To carry out this role, Safe MMA receives and retains limited personal data, including:
- Contact details, provided via the Registration Form
- Medical forms and medical information, which may be provided by fighters themselves or by authorised third parties such as doctors, gyms, promotions, or governing bodies, typically via our secure email address records@safemma.org
This information is processed solely for the purposes of medical safety assessment, verification, and related regulatory or safeguarding requirements.
How information may be used and shared
Safe MMA will only share the minimum information necessary to ensure that medical safety standards are properly assessed and upheld.
This may include, where appropriate:
- Sharing medical documents for review within the Safe MMA network of authorised volunteer doctors and medical experts
- Clarifying or verifying specific medical standards with examining clinicians, laboratories, imaging centres, or other relevant providers
- Confirming to a partner gym, promotion, or governing body whether required medical documentation has been received and or accepted
- Communicating with a competitor about what is required to meet medical safety standards for a particular event
What we do not do
Safe MMA does not share personal contact details or medical information for marketing, commercial, or unrelated purposes, and does not disclose information beyond what is necessary to fulfil its medical safety role.
Legal basis and data protection
Safe MMA processes personal data, including special category health data, on the basis of explicit consent and where necessary to support medical safety oversight and compliance with applicable standards.
Information is retained only for as long as is reasonably necessary to support ongoing medical safety verification, regulatory requirements, and related record keeping.
Your rights
You have the right to request access to your personal data, to ask for corrections, or to raise concerns about how your information is being used. If your contact details change, you should submit an updated registration form.
